Fishing With Worms Once you have been using your wormery for a while, the worms should have bred and be multiplying. One way to use your surplus worms is by using them as fishing bait. Worms are the most natural of fish baits and have been used to catch fish for hundreds of years. Worms of any size can be used making sure that the hook size is suitable for the size of worm. Most fisheries now insist on anglers using barbless hooks which can sometimes mean the worm wriggles off the hook but if you “tip” with a caster this shouldn’t be a problem. You can use worms as bait whether float fishing, legering or even free lining. Pole anglers have a very effective technique using chopped worm.
